Hi Colin, The first thing that anyone who is looking into getting any type of iThing is to download iTunes and see how they get along with it.
if you're looking for a device which can hold a lot of music, then that Ipod Nano would be limited to 8 or 16GB, if it goes that high. There is no expansion slot for more memory on any iThings.
