Hi! As I may have mentioned on list, "now is the time" for those who want to get started with airPlay as prices for airPlay compatible devices have fallen through the floor, particularly those which have the old 30 pin iPhone/iPod dock connector as part of them.
Even if you don't have an older model of iPhone or if you have the newer iPhone models that have the smaller lightning connector you can still take full advantage of these docks in a number of ways, the most obvious is to forget the dock connector entirely and use aiPlay instead but - if you really want to use the dock connector for playing audio and charging the iPhone battery - then use a 30 pin to lightning dock adapter. I mentioned a JBL onAir dock I bought a couple of weeks ago for $50.00, 2 years ago these docks were selling for $399.00, the dock has good sound but is a little difficult to set up and connect to your network for airPlay use, I required some sighted assistance but it was worth the extra hastle, once the onAir system is connected to your Wi-Fi then it stays connected, the onAir system can remember multiple Wi-fi networks so it can be moved from place to place, even remembers them when power is turned off and will rejoin the Wi-Fi network when power comes back on again, uses the Wi-Fi network to set the time on the built-in digital clock so - on the top of the fridge in my kitchen - the onAir system is proving both useful for me when I'm working in the kitchen and useful for visitors who come to lunch etc who wish to monitor the time. I purchased a Pure Contour airPlay dock last week again for a bargain price of $75.00, not long ago these things were being sold for $499.00 and they were certainly worth the price given the top quality audio the Pure Contour provides. airPlay setup is simple, just hold the Wi-Fi button down for 5 seconds, join the Contour's built-in Wi-Fi network and set accordingly to your Wi-Fi Networks specifications. An added bonus with this unit is the Ethernet port at the back so - if you're planning to use this unit near your Router or network switch - no setup whatever will be required. the Contour boasts a RCA digital audio output at the back which works totally independently of the standard speakers on the Contour itself, for example you can set the volume of your IOS device to 0 but still have digital streaming through your Hi-Fi system from the Contour, as one would expect the digital stream is excellent. Controls on the Contour are straight forward, just 4 large buttons, 3 of which control volume and muting whilst the other controls the power status, - on, sleep and standby -. ********** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
