That's correct if you want to do that sort of thing, I hope I explained that in 
an earlier message I sent.

You can also use the IOS with your Apple TV in the form of a remote controller 
with the "Apple Remote" app from the Apps store.

As stated originally, an iPhone etc isn't necessary for the user to have full 
control over the Apple TV as it comes with its own nifty remote control unit.
