It has been so long since mine got connected, that I'm not sure, but
yes, you do need to connect it either to an appropriate surround
receiver or to the tvf hdmi. It does work with voice over, and I
believe it is possible to turn voice over on by pressing the largest
button on the remote 3 times, once the apple tv is properly connected
and turned on. When I got mine, that wasn't possible, so I had to have
sighted help to go into the menus and get voice over turned on.
