I once asked a tech rep for one of the talkware programs, possibly K1000,
if it might not make sense for them to maintain updates of Creative Labs'
drivers; after all, it's something we all need and is notoriously tough to
obtain.

The response was basically, it's not really our job, plus it's a slippery
slope.  I don't totally agree with this but there's some merrit to the
position.

So why don't either one of the user groups or a consortium of talkware
makers put together a site for these and other hard-to-get components of
the audio/braille computer experience?  Examples of this already exist of
course; for example, I generally go slinking off to "whitestick.co.uk"
after tangling with Winamp's site; I know Tom is going to have the direct
link up there.

Perhaps some of that style of cooperation needs to make a fresh appearance
as we weave thru the tangled Web!
