I once asked a tech rep for one of the talkware programs, possibly K1000, if it might not make sense for them to maintain updates of Creative Labs' drivers; after all, it's something we all need and is notoriously tough to obtain.
The response was basically, it's not really our job, plus it's a slippery slope. I don't totally agree with this but there's some merrit to the position. So why don't either one of the user groups or a consortium of talkware makers put together a site for these and other hard-to-get components of the audio/braille computer experience? Examples of this already exist of course; for example, I generally go slinking off to "whitestick.co.uk" after tangling with Winamp's site; I know Tom is going to have the direct link up there. Perhaps some of that style of cooperation needs to make a fresh appearance as we weave thru the tangled Web! -- To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead.--Tom Paine. @maxter61 on twitter.
