I had the same problem with that program as well.
I like DVD Audio Extractor. I can play D.V.D.S. with it as well.

The problem I have with VLC is not with being (or not being) able to see
the interface; the problem I have is that VLC just won't play videos
correctly! It is really "herky-jerky" the audio has quite a bit of
skipping (or something) don't know how to describe it accurately; all I
know is that it makes my DVDs sound as if there is a problem with the DVD!
I've tried same DVD with Media Classics; no problem with playing!

The programme works ok with jaws 11 here. You may need to "unhide" the
interface before you can see anything though. I still prefer Winamp for
audio but VLC is really the only go-to for video file formats as it plays
everything and anything.
