you might just have the speed slider set too high. if you go into the control window there will be a group box labeled speed, try using the up and down arrows to adjust that. sampling rate just affects the quality of the file.

it plays correctly on the on-board soundcard. Its only when I switch
to the new card that i get this result.

I have a rocketfish 5.1 PCI sound card when I point goldwave to it
the majority of the files I pull up play tremendously fast. does
