Hello Colin: It gets the unique number of the CD and with that, it gets the info from a database in the internet. When I rip one that does not appear in the database, or has the wrong information there, as happens from time to time, I borrow a pair of good eyes, normally my wife's, and ask her to read me the number of song and the info from the CD cover.
