Subject: Re: question Separating a file
Greetings,
Is it one long track?
Is the file absolutely ready to split? I.E no further edits required?
Assuming it is all ready and a single track, when you open the file,
before
doing **anything** with it, do ctrl-q to set a start cue-point.
Now find the places where you want to split the file, stop at each and
ensure by moving cursor exactly to where you want the split, then do
ctrl-q.
At the end of these, ctrl-j takes you forward and ctrl-shift-j takes you
back each track, least maybe the ctrl-commands are the other way round, I
cannot remember as I write.
Now, go into the edit then the cue markers menu and cursor down to split.
Enter on the split and decide where you want the tracks to be saved,
ensure
the tracks are named as you wish and let it rip, job completed.
Be aware the tracks will be saved in the format of the original file
unless
you specify otherwise.
Also, the names given by the program for tracks are somewhat clumsy, so
you
may wish to edit the cue list (under the cue markers submenu) to have
different names. You will see in the list two columns - the first is the
cue marker name, the second the time for which it is set. Of course, you
could go through your file, stopping where appropriate, setting start
marker
with shift e and putting it as the second column, but why reinvent the
weel?
What I do is give my tracks names like a b c d .... x y z or maybe 01 02
03
...98 99 ...
when splitting you will have the opportunity to keep the names assigned
which is what I do, also (certainly when splitting .wav files never having
split any other formats) you can choose whether or not to set tracks up
ready to burn to a cd.
