Yes there is a rather good sized sub-woofer into which the additional speakers connection and the sub plugs into the output jack of the computer.
I like my rock and roll so volume is important. However, I also listen to a lot of acoustic music i.e. folk, choral and world music. The SoundSticks have a nice transparency. The design is quite striking as the tweeters are about a foot tall columns. There is a touch control on either side of a sound port on the right hand speaker column to raise and lower the volume. The sub is shaped somewhat like a small bee hive and sits on small legs. The sub definitely needs to be on a hard flat surface rather than on thick carpeting to get the best effect of the sub. I have the Sound Sticks 2 version. A remote control would be a nice addition, but I don't know if they've added one or not. I've never tried comparing these to other higher end computer speakers and the B and W's do sound as if they'd be awesome. However the price on those is prohibitive for me while the SoundSticks were only a mild stretch! Good luck with you choice and let the list know what you choose and how you like them. -----Original Message----- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of André van Deventer Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2011 10:09 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: powered desktop speakers Clifford This was also one of the systems I have been reading about. Volume to me is not the issu but most definitely the sound quality is. I listen to quite a lot of acoustic music for example. I believe this system has a small subwhoofer included? Is this correct? -----Original Message----- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Blackwell, Clifford Sent: 16 August 2011 10:13 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: powered desktop speakers I have no experience with those, but I have a pair of Harmon Karden Sound Sticks. I think they're up to version 3 now. They are a 2.1 system and sound great and can handle playing quite loudly. I think they're around $150 U.S. -----Original Message----- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of André van Deventer Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2011 3:07 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: powered desktop speakers Hi folks Looking for some high quality desktop speakers to use for listening to music. Let me state that movie and game sounds are completely irrelevant to me. What I am looking for is sound quality for listening to lossless files with desktop speakers. I have found 3 recommendations and I was wondering if anyone have any experience with one or more of them. The speakers are M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Creative gigaworks t40 and B&W mm1 Yes I realize that they are kind of pricy. The B&W system is by far the most expensive but I like the idea of a built-in digital to audio converter.
