Audacity is free. I use Switch in windows to convert MP4 files to MP3 files.
I Googled Winamp and MP4, and it looks like you can play MP4 files with winamp, although you may need a plug in. Have you tried this yet? I only spent a few seconds doing this. I suspect you could figure it out by spending just a few minutes with Google. You can find out more about file extensions in general using Google, but one site I found was http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/mp4, where it says the following: (Note that I cleaned this up a little bit, but I apologize for the formatting. You may have a better result by just following the link above or doing your own search in Google.) File Description Movie or video clip that uses MPEG-4 compression, a standard developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG); commonly used for sharing video files on the Internet. The MPEG-4 video format uses separate compression for audio and video tracks. Video is compressed with MPEG-4 video encoding. Audio is compressed using AAC compression, the same type of audio compression used in .AAC files. MP4 files are supported by many video programs and various hardware devices, including the Microsoft Zune portable media player.
