The Nagra. That's the one I use. It's lovely. Nicely accessible. Any stereo recordings could be turned mono in your editing software on your computer is the other point to come back to.I'm sure you wouldn't be putting it out there unedited or untreated.

Yes, the Zoom H1 would fit the bill but it should be stressed it won't actually record in mono; few of the cheap end recorders do. One that might is the new Olypus LS 5 which, if I'm not mistaken, does support .mp3 at 64kbs in mono, plenty good enough for not too demanding voice recordings. I think one of the smaller Marantz offerings supports genuine mono recording too. For a microhone I'd be looking at Rode or Audio Technica, or maybe SE elctronics. Think the recorder Damon's refering to is the Nagra Airs M. this has 2, or is it 4 GB of internal memory but is a high end recorder costing five to six hundred quid if you're a humble individual buyer. Still returning to real world priced equipment, converting the two track recording to single track mono is no hassel in a sound editor. Hope that's all of some help somewere or other.
