Hi Lisa,
Pal is not a format, but it is just the FrameRate of your film, which in this case is 25 frames per second. I assume that these films are in dvds and that you want to rip them into an avi format. There is a couple of software that can help you. These are: dvd decrypter and VirtualDub. The first one will bring the dvd into your hard drive and the second will encode the .vob into avi, you need a vidio codec like divx or xvid for encoding and to be honest it's not so simple for a blind person to do that because there are things that we can't see like the cropping or the sinc between audio and video when all is complete. Now there are some software that claim to do all the process automatically, but I have no idea of either how they work or what their name is.

Hi all,
I just re subscribed to this list after moving and losing the info and all
when someone recommended it after reading this message that I posted to
another list looking for help. Please, if anyone can, direct me where to go
or tell me it's not possible. Thank you.
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this list and have just been reading and getting a feel for the
list before asking my question. I hope it will not be considered off topic
or unsuitable for here. I'm totally blind and am using Windows 7 Home
Premium with JAWS 12 Professional. I have some movies that are in pal format
and I'm wanting to convert them to avi so they'll be smaller. Does anyone
know of an accessible program that might do this? I used to use Magic DVD
Ripper and I thought it would do this, but I can't find the right setting if
it does, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great
day.
