Hi Ray,

It might be worth trying Winamp to manage and edit playlists.  I don't
use Hal but I know there are Hal scripts for Winamp.  However I don't
know what enhancements these scripts add to using Winamp.  Also if your
friend buys Winamp Pro he'll be able to rip CDs using Winamp at whatever
speed his CD or DVD ROM drive supports.  I hope this helps.
