I have XP, which may be similar to XP Home in this way. If you go to the
control panel, then file options, you will be able to associate file types
with the application of your choice. The application you select becomes the
default for those file types. 

If XP Home looks like this but you still have difficulty following, please
post again. I, or someone else if they answer first, can list the steps.

Subject: problems with winamp and windows media player

I have both winamp and windows media player and I want winamp to be come my
default player but I keep coming up with windows media player I know where
the options are but can't uncheck the boxes.  I am running xp home and media
player 11 any help I would  appreciate it.
