Well mine is 2 g with a built in speaker. Could this be the reason mine

I use my 1gb Zenstone to play books on my NLS player. It will not play
with
a cartridge inserted, though. I read all mp3 and NLS downloaded books. In
my opinion better than a flash drive. It can be removed and reinserted
without losing your place in the book. Don

I read that my zen stone would work when plugged into my nls player. I get
a
cartridge error when I try to use it. Am I doing something wrong? Will it
work with bard and mp3's? Will it play my music files also? Thanks Ike
