thank you, but this only helps, when jaws is correctly configured for winamp. it's just that I remember that once a special toolbar or something had to be enabled to make jaws be able to see the various volume and panning controls.

Here is what I copied from the "Insert key W" hot key list, in Win Amp 5.56: "To pan 50% left, press ALT+CTRL+J,
To center sound, press ALT+CTRL+K,
To pan 50% right, press ALT+CTRL+L,
To pan 100% right, press ALT+CTRL+SEMI COLON" . I think you may want to have a file running, to be able to hear the desired effect!

That was all I could find!
