I wonder if it's the same as the DS50 that I have? If so, it takes two AAA batteries. On the DS50, there's a plastic panel on the very end of the machine on the record volume side IE away from the main control side. Press this panel and pull back. The panel should give way and sort of swing out of the way so you can insert the batteries. HTH.
