For some reason the new Goldwave doesn't recognize the earlier Lame encoder. However, if you're on line, it will come up with a box offering to download it for you. Just choose the OK button and the new encoder will be downloaded and installed for you. It will then continue and save your file in mp3 format. Only thing I've noticed is this new version of the encoder isn't nearly as fast or efficient as the earlier one. Not a problem with an average single song, but when saving longer files, such as chapters in a spoken word book, the increased time is very noticable. Haven't used it enough yet to find if the encoded files sound better than before but I would hope the extra time would be worth something.
