It's true it's safer, but it's also very inconvenient. There are an awful lot of tasks that only an administrator can do, such as install applications. I've tried this several times, and in every case, I've just given myself and the users on my system administrative access. Since you're the only person on your PC, you could set up two accounts for yourself, one with administrative privileges and one without. You can use the account without administrative privileges as much as possible, but be prepared to log onto the other account whenever you need to install an application or perform any number of tasks. If you start JAWS first, running it as a service, you shouldn't have any trouble getting around the log on screen and logging on as different users. JAWS can even be configured differently for different user accounts. Like I said, I've tried this myself, but I've always gone back to just giving myself administrative privileges and following constantine's advice with respect to malware and firewalls.

Well, I'm not too sure. It would probably be more trouble than its worth, honestly. Besides, if you have up to date antivirus and malware removing programs you should be fine.

Subject: User accounts, hardware profiles, and Jaws

User accounts, hardware profiles, and Jaws:
I just read in the help section of User Accounts in control panel that one should not use there own computer as administrator. It is safer to surf the net with a lower privilege account. Makes sense to me. Now. How much trouble will this be if I set up a user account for my self? I am the only person that uses this computer. Can different accounts start up with different hardware profiles? How does this effect Jaws and logging on to my computer? Can I set up one account/hardware combination system for casual use such as surfing the Internet and another optimised for multy-channel audio, VST/DXI plugins, and MIDI that would have no network and only services needed for the task?
