From Rockbox's Sansa FAQ at
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaFAQ, it says the following:
Which Sansa models does Rockbox currently support?
Rockbox works with audio playback on the
Sansa e200 series players
(e250, e260, e270, e280), the
e200 Rhapsody models
(e250r,e260r,e270r,e280r) and the
c200 models
(c240, c250).
If the USB options on your player are "MSC" and "MTP" it's non-R, if
they're "Rhapsody" and "Plays for Sure" then it's R. Also, Rockbox does
not function
on the v2 models. The v1 firmware is named 01.xx.xx, while the v2
firmware begins with 03. This version number can be retrieved under
Settings->Info.
From a quick search on Google, if the Sansa mentions Audible then it's
a v2 model.
You can get Rockbox ready Sansa's from
http://www.froobi.com/search.asp?keyword=Rockbox&search=GO, but it looks
like they're all sold out at the moment.
BTW, I got my Sansa e260 from woot.com's deal of the day. The discussion
list confirmed it would work with Rockbox before I purchased it.

Ask for version 1 - but good luck finding it, sandisc probably made
bigger and better things by now. In all honesty, if you can't find one
in stores, you might try ebay. I'm sure there are a lot of mp3 players
that rockbox supports on there. I'm using an ipod video 30 gb with
rockbox on it and love the thing. I don't have to use Itunes or any of
that "software"..

Actually, from the rockbox.com web site it says: "• SanDisk: Sansa c200,
e200 and e200R series (not the v2 models)", so make sure you're talking
about a v1 model.

Yes it will. All Sansa c200, e200 and e200R series will work with
rockbox.

Yes. I have a Sansa-E270 with rockbox 3.0 on it. The voice I have
loaded
for
the menus and everything is Acapella Heather American English. I
also have
VW Kate for V 3.0. I can give you instructions on how to install
rockbox,
and to install the voice.
HTH,
Timothy

I do not know how to put it in English. Also, if you want, you can put
rockbox on it. (www.rockbox.org) It enables the Sansa to read Micro
SD-HC
cards. Plus, it has the ability to talk as well.

I recently bought a 4GB Sandisk player, the Sansa 270, for $30.00
delivered. Great price, but no manual; and no outboard charger,
though
the data cable works for that too.
Bought it in part for my S.O. to enjoy the video screen and don't
expect
it to be fully accessible, but all the messages on said screen are in
French. Quel domage!
Any thoughts on tweaking the main menu back to English, which would
make
it a more inviting device? I must say the internal software seems
quite
good. Plug the darn thing in, and it starts finding your WMA files.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.
