Ever thought of becoming a broadcaster with ACB Radio Interactive? If
you're blind or visually impaired, Well, you can, and what's more it's
easy. During the last year, ACB Radio Interactive has had to comply
with very stringent rules from an organization called Sound Exchange,
which handles copyright matters for the recording companies. This has
meant that we have had to supply, as part of our metadata - and I'll
come back to what metadata is later - artist, title, album and record
label. Unfortunately some of the software that broadcasters used before
the introduction of this somewhat stringent demand, was just not capable
of providing all this data, either at all, or in a useable form.

The team at ACB Radio Interactive have been working hard to find a way
of making the submission of this data easier, and have come to an
agreement with another organization which also handles the copyright,
SWCast. This organization only requires us to send as metadata - yes
there's that word again - artist and title. They do ask that if people
can send album name as well that would be useful, however it is not a
requirement, although we at ACB Radio would prefer people to send that
if they have it, simply because we show details on our own web page.

Okay let's get this term "metadata" explained. Metadata is text that is
streamed along with your audio, and on many players - especially Winamp,
can show up in the title bar, thus giving the listener a way to find
out, quite apart from the DJ announcing it, who the artist is, and what
the track title is. Okay, having got that out of the way, let's
continue.

If you've ever thought that you'd like to do a show on ACB Radio
Interactive, all the software that is currently available for
broadcasting is capable of sending the required text, however of course
it does mean you need to put the text in the file, and here again the
software has facilities for you to do this - no, it won't do it all by
itself, you do have to enter the data but hey, most of us know what
we're playing and who it's by don't we?

Anyway, assuming you can do that, the rest is, as they say child's play.
All you have to do is write to supp...@acbradio.org and we'll help you
do the rest, and the ACBRI team will help you get over any problems, and
behold! after an hour's audition - well we have to know if your stream
is stable now don't we? - there you'll be, a DJ on an ever-expanding
high quality internet radio station.

So come on, give it a go. So you've got a good album collection and
would like other people to hear it: now's your chance.

It, I hope, goes without saying that we very much welcome back
broadcasters who were unable to comply with the Sound Exchange needs

Write to supp...@acbradio.org and get broadcasting.
