Hi Brad, The Sony is usable as far as simple operation. You will need someone to help you get the date and time set when you first turn on the machine. Once this is done, you should be able to record and playback with ease. As far as the menus, it is like any non-talking machine, takes quite a lot of memorizing. It has both an input and output volume knob, which is quite nice. I just received mine Saturday, and had my 10 year old help me with setting date and time. He also told me the name of each button and jac. Besides having great recording quality, the moment you plug it in to the USB on the computer, you have access to all of the folders.
