I recently saw a reference to a new website through which one can
convert text and other formats into synthesized speech. Haven't tried
it out myself.

sappy 5 voices, Open Book 8.02 which is the latest version, does use

And it does a really nice job of converting text to MP3.
So you all may want to do some checking in to it.
