The file name can be anything at all allowed by whatever operating
system you use.
The meta infromation gives you more info about the file than you could
reasonably (or possibly) fit into a file name in *any operating system.

Subject: Mp3 Meta Data Question

    Hi List,

I have a question regarding meta tags in mp3 files. What is the logic
to have all that information such as artist and title embedded in the
files when artist and title are present in the standard artist and title
ei: the file's name? I'm just curious. I would think that with the
information in the file names the tag data would be unnecessary and it
would make things simpler with out all those tagging issues etc. This
is just one of those questions I am rather academically curious about.
Can anyone scratch this itch?
