Too bad they are on cassette, bird songs are a lot of high 
frequencies, so good open reel or even vinyl is better than cassettes.
<grin> Anyway this doesn't solve your problem. How are you 
interfacing your cassette machine to your computer?
Is your cassette machine portable, stereo dual, etc.
