Well I for one appreciate the below and would also like to add the  
following.
One of the best shortwave receivers I've ever owned is the Sony ICF- 
SW7600GS which is still available I understand (an upgraded version of  
the Sony ICF-SW7600G). This receiver is incredibly sensitivie and  
selective whilst boasting a whole heap of features including a pot for  
RF-Gain and 10 pages of 10 memories all of which can be set randomly,  
this and much much much more in the size of something like a paperback  
book for less than $200.00 U.S.? Well that's practically giving good  
electronics away.
