You don't have to, you just need to know what you are doing. Take the following example:
http://bt.shellworld.net/promo.mp3 When I recorded this a couple of years ago, I had computer noises and our air conditioning system behind it, and I eliminated them using nothing but the default noiseprint settings with Gold Wave. The only thing I did with the file now as convert the wave file to MP3.
