One thing I like to do when recording is have Gold Wave record from my sound card, which has the higher quality mike, the line in, and so on, and give me output through my USB headset. The otehr advantage to this is that I can record what I want and still stay on Skype, since Skype isn't trying to use my sound card at all and that frees it up for Gold Wave.
