that's a little like asking how long is a piece of string I suppose, but 
you need to take into consideration what you want from the software. do 
you need multitrack capabilities? do you want midi capabilities as well? 
there's many and varied possibilities. cubass and sonar imho are great 
but I do also use cool edit for when I simply want to put together 
voiceovers and audio grabs.
