I have a great deal of deja vu and ear ringing, so I guess its time to chime in. I had a very similar issue last year and I've discovered several fixes and one thing left which may also prove valueable as well. I would have the same hum, hiss and hard drive noises as described. I found that after purchasing a Furmen unit for line and power conditioning this helped a little, but the issues were still there. Line conditioning and ground protection is good, but it didn't due the tric so the problem was not in the outlets. I then tried the Ebtech line of products and new cables this proved to isolate the issue the hum eliminator and ebtech 8 are two items one pluges into an outlet and the other is for lines. The line filter in the ebtech 8 product nocked out the hard drive and hum noises and the his. I have a set up that still leaves some lines with the noise, leading me to believe the problem lies in the computer. Further more it may most likely be the powersupply or the motherboard and from list posts I would guess the cables should be upgraded in the pc. So I must save up once again for high quality products should I want a quiet solution all around. I would highly reccomend the ebtech eb8 at Sweetwater.com and other fine retailers. That filter by far is quite affordable and worked right out out of the box, not much luck with the hum eliminator outlet filter but I guess that works for some instances. Good luck.
