I have a Zen Stone and an iRiver H20 running Rockbox. I agree with
everything Rick said about the Zen Stone and have nothing to add!

Rockbox is open source firmware that you can use to replace the firmware
that comes loaded on your MP3 player. This firmware wasn't designed to
be accessible, but it's implemented several "eyes free" features which
basically turns your MP3 player into a talking MP3 player. It's a pretty
impressive open source project, with a good vibrant development
community and good documentation. However, it is going to take a little
bit of work to get everything talking to you.

If you just want something small (with 1GB of storage) and easy to use
right out of the box then the Zen Stone is for you! It'll also play
Audible, Overdrive, DRM, ... files. If you want something larger (my
iRiver H20 has a 20GB harddrive for example), want access to all of the
players menus and settings, don't care to listen to proprietary formats
and have some time to read the documentation and install the firmware
then Rockbox and a supported player would be a good choice.
