Yes, from the main winamp window, press ctrl + p to open preferences. Select general preferences from the tree view, and then tab to the check box that reads "check for winamp updates on start up". Press space to uncheck the box, click close button and all should be fine. Please note: you have to be quick about pressing ctrl + p when you launch winamp, or the update will kick in and will disable the winamp hotkeys.
