Ok, well I don't want to repeat myself like a broken record but I think I've
explained myself enough with the examples I've given, take it or leave it,
up to you.

Dane, the difference is that an imperfect taped recording produced sound
which whose quality was identifiable as poor. My tests indicate the ear
can't distinguish between rips performed by the Windows Media Player and
Exact Audio Copy. Do you think you could pick out the EAC. recordings in a
double blind experiment? I mean, seriously.

I've given an explanation of this and I'll run something else past you. Go
back to the days of cassette dekcs for example, put a tape into a deck ,
start recording without optimizing the deck to the tape and see what
happens. Sure! You'll probably get a reasonable recording if the tape is a
reasonable tape and the deck a reasonable deck but you won't get a "near
perfect" recording for that blind of tape unless you "calibrate" the deck to
suit the characteristics of the tape you're using. The whole idea of CD
Ripping in my view (and Audio CD copying) is to get a "perfect rip" or a
"perfect copy", see a previous message I've written for more on this topic.
Now suppose you don't get a perfect copy of a CD and you copy the "Second
generation" copy to another CD, then that CD won't be perfect either and so
it goes on.

You said, EAC. can be paired exactly to the drives you're working with. I
say, so what! I had people listen to files produced by it and the media
player and no one could hear a difference although a sightling I know said
their representations looked impressive. A distinction without a
difference?

EAC (Exact Audio Copy) and if you've happily been ripping with Easy CD DA
Extractor then EAC will give you absolute heaven, its far more accurate than
Easy CD DA Extractor as it can be exactly paired to the drive or drives
you're using, Easy CD DA Extractor (like much else around) cannot.

I'm not familiar with EAC. Details, please. What makes it superior? I've
been happily ripping with Easy CDDA since version 4 or 5, I think. Can't
imagine an easier interface, or better results.

Yeah, well the software is only going to be used for conversion here as I
find that EAC does a far better job at ripping, honestly that software is
the best ripper on the earth I reckon.
