Books. But, one thing I'd want to do would be to play it through my car's speakers using the jack provided for mp3 players. Would it do that? Could I play otr on this device? Could I stop in the middle of something and find my place conveniently? Thanks, to all in advance.

If music then the zen stone could well be your best bet as it's built specifically with music playback in mind so no question you'll get a better sound quality.
