It really depends on what you're trying to convert. Lossy to lossy 
conversion is ... well, my views on the subject are more or less 
legendary. But if it's music you're converting, then my best suggestion 
would be to experiment and work out what sounds best for you. Different 
people have different thresholds of what quality is acceptable to them, 
and your ear is really the best determinant of what works for you. It's 
not the answer you were looking for, but I hope it helps.
