OK interesting.

Do you run this transmitter from a line-out socket or the speaker
out/headphone socket from a soundcard?  I would think that if you use the
speaker out of the soundcard, you would be limited to the quality of the
sound card amplifier?

yes the veronica has very professional audio quality. I have had mine sense
2001 and it works well. Now as for that hum I do get it  from time to time
but it is not the power suply. It is mostly a thing of antenna placement. 
When I move my wire around I can get rid of it.
