you an clean up sound using Goldwave on your PC. It's free. You'd have to transfer the audio from your minidisk onto the PC. Then you copy a tiny bit of the offending background sound to the clipboard before cleaning it up. Whatever is in the clipboard gets taken out across the entire recording. So this is good for background fuzz, high pitched whines or things like that.
Depending on what you've got though, it can take out some of the higher frequencies. Depends what you're after.
