remember that the socket on the iaudio is a line in socket. thereford, it's not originally intended to use a a mic input. So yuo will need a battery powered mic and possibly a preamp. the Sony EMS CF 907 work well with the X5 for example, but anyway the recording won't be very loud due to the limitation of the recording gain you can have from the line in socket.
