I would suggest that one size doesn't fit all. There are those that prefer the mini disc recorder for one reason or another. The fact that one can record on a mini disc up to a million times is one advantage of the mini disc recorder. The Sony units do come with software for uploading and downloading material. I am not sure how accessible this software is, as I have never loaded it. There are reporters in the field that are still using the Sony mini disc recorders to do their reporting work.
