I know nothing about Goldwave whatsoever but the feature you outline below is a feature of many sound editing and recording packages including Adobe Audition, Sound Studio for the Mac, Sound Forge, Sonar etc and there are some very nice and accessible additional plug- ins to be had for all these packages.
