Certainly you can, set the system to standard stereo, that will do
the trick. I had to use my Pioneer system like that until I got the
extra cable required.
Your manual should give you information on how this is done.

Hi all.

I recently purchased an Arcam AV unit with Quad Lite speaker system. In
addition I purchased a 42 inch Plasma TV and a Pioneer DVD Recorder/
Player.
Unfortunately, despite paying a further £150 for installation, the
engineers
who visited were unable to set it up correctly for me. I'm currently
fighting with them to return to my home and do the job right.
However, I am
also thinking of another solution, and that is, to split the system
up. If
I take my TV and DVD Recorder/Player out of the equation, for the
meantime,
I can use the AV as a standard Hi-fi. So now to my question.

The Quad speaker system is 5.1 and I have 2 Satellite Speakers, 2 Rear
Satellite Speakers, A central Speaker and a Sub.

Can I still use the system without the Sub and rear speakers attached,
giving me Left, Right and Centre.

I need to demolish the room the system is currently in and set
something up
for music for about six months or so.

Any advise would be very much appreciated.

Best wishes.
Andy
