it doesn't have a hard drive. It uses an sd card. There are easier ways of getting tapes and albums to your computer. I wouldn't use the edirol for that purpose.
If you want to put info on to cd, the plextalk is a good machine, but twice the price of the edirol. If you aren't going to do field recordings, you could use goldwave, soundForge, or studio recorder for converting tapes and albums. these are all software products and have a learning curve. There are tutorials, but you will need to read the manuals to learn to use them. The plexTalk cd recorder is voice guided and easy. The edirol menus are accessible, but you will need to memorize them and I would suggest you listen to some podcasts about these devices. http://www.blindcooltech.com Hope this helps Judy -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of VICTORIA VAUGHAN Sent: Friday, November 17, 2006 7:52 PM To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: Edirol R-09 Clarification Please I'm trying to understand this unit as it compares to the Plextalk. Is the edirol R-09 a stand alone digital recorder? Is the recording it makes going to its own internal harddrive or CD or Flashcard? Can this unit help with converting cassettes and LP records to digital format on your computer? Thanks for any help in understanding this!
