I could be wrong but I don't think that is a good idea. If you go to the options menu and press enter on preferences, you will be presented with a multi tab dialog.
The audio tab in that dialog is where one can change the playback and record devices. Unless there is some compelling reason to use anything other than the preferred audio device, the playback and record devices should be left as the Microsoft wave mapper which is, in effect, the preferred audio device as determined in the control panel of Windows. I have been using an external Audigy ZS2 for quite some time with the playback and record devices set to Microsoft wave mapper and Sound Forge work flawlessly. Note that when control r is used to bring up the record dialog, the record device is displayed. The setting is taken from the preferences settings. Again, unless there is some compelling reason to do so, it should be left as microsoft wave mapper.
