I, too, have a SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit External. The software that Creative supplies with it is, so far as I know, entirely graphical and entirely inaccessible. You'll need sighted assistance, if that's the only way to control the volume on your rear speakers.
Personally, I don't use the Creative software, at all, just the Windows volume control. But, then, I'm not driving four speakers with the SoundBlaster.
