I had tried that but some how the properties were all messed up. I kept trying to set the working directory in the properties by typing in that directory but dos just kept telling me that it could not find the file. This was very frustrating. So I deleted the short cut in my start menu and then created a new short cut to command.com from the explorer window. I now get a ms dos prompt window but now under properties there is nothing in the working edit box .but cmd line has
c :\Windows in the edit box. But when the dos prompt window comes the directory shows it as C:\windows\command\EBD this is strange behaviour in my opinion. But the bottom line is that it works I can just type in a cd command and change directories. I know that command is the home directory because command dir shows it as it by repeating it in the window. My conclusion was that I had two copies of dos and the short cut that I deleted was pointing to the one that wasn't working properly. Thanks for all the suggestions that everyone sent. I can use it now the way it is. Isaac ----- Original Message ----- From: Dan Murphy To: PC audio discussion list. I think the prompt will be c:\windows. HTH. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Minor" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list.
