You don't need to remove the Creative mixer.  You can simply disable it from 
starting in Msconfig.  The entry is CTSysVol in the Startup tab.

You can use the standard Windows mixer to accomplish most tasks except for 
surround sound adjustment.

There are other Creative entries you could probably disable in Msconfig as 
well.  I found turning them off helped me to use both a SB Audigy 4 pro 
along with my built in AC'97 sound chip at the same time.
