Quite often, I need to copy and transfer spoken audio recordings from micro
cassettes to my PC. I use Total Recorder Professional version 6. There is only
a microphone jack from the cassette player, so I patch from there to the
line-in on my sound card. I then usually choose the Total Recorder option of
automatically set recording levels. The original may be mono or stereo, but I
often don't know. I don't have control of the original recording.

My question concerns the quality of my copied digital version. It might be my
imagination, but sometimes I don't think the end result is as clear and
sometimes is lower volume than the original. I usually don't change format
options much in Total Recorder, and generally leave it at either CD quality
stereo or maybe PCM 22 050 HZ 16 bit stereo.

Is there a better way of doing this? Also, I don't care about file size here
as I only keep the digital version for a short time.
