I've done that, but that hasn't helped. I now have virtual audio cable installed, but I fail to see how that will help. Thanks! Allison

Yes, I know what your problem is now. I just had the same problem last night. Go into Skype, go to the tools menu, go to the options menu. Now choose the sound devices tab, and under that tab uncheck the checkbox that says "let Skype set my sound devices". If that is checked Skype will ignore the fact that you have checked something different and put you back to having the mike checked. If you don't let Skype control your audio the box you check will stay checked.
