hi Sharon

The reason you can't play the audio file offline is because the .asx
file is a reference to the file you're trying to play. In other
words, the .asx file tells Windows media player ok, windows media
player! I want you to go online to this site, and play this file.
Nothing else, just this file. So windows media player says, ok, I'll
play that file for you. So the file it's referencing is on asite
somewhere, and in order to get the file, you'd actually need to
download it to your machine. Sometimes this is possible, sometimes
not. if it's a streaming file, then it isn't possible since the file
continuously plays. However, if it's just a regular file, ou might be
able to open up the .asx file in note pad or some other kind of text
editor and download the file to your system. Keep in mind that the
file may be quite large, so be warned.
Of course, you could always get yourself a faster internet connection
like dsl or cable, but I know that that's not always economically
possible. If it is for you however, you would be able to play these
files without so much difficulty.
  Hope this helps.
